«Охоту» на Альфу (постоянную тонкой структуры, равную 1/137) автор начал с самых первых своих погружений в бесконечный мир натуральных чисел, поскольку призрак Альфы (как и призраки,скажем, «магического» числа 7 ± 2, пресловутого «золотого сечения») буквально начинает мозолить глаза при исследовании Большого отрезка числовой оси (то есть чисел: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, …, 8∙10^60 – столько планковских времен содержится в возрасте Вселенной). И в данной работе представлена лишь небольшая часть «доказательств» этого феномена – существования указанных магических чисел (в том числе и Альфы).
