We study the Dictionary of Minor Planet Names of L. D. Schmadel. We draw the natural logarithm of the number of names, normalised, starting with a letter vs the natural logarithm of the rank of the letter, normalised. We conclude that the names of the minor planets discovered up to 1900 and 1910 can be characterised by BP(4,βH = 0) and the minor planets discovered up to 1920, 1930 and 1940 can be characterised by BP(4,βH = 0.02) i.e. a magnetisation curve for the Bethe-Peierls approximation of the Isingmodel with four nearest neighbours with βH = 0.02. β is 1/(k_B T) where, T is temperature, H is external magnetic field and k_B is the Boltzmann constant.
